The Functional Medicine Approach
Functional medicine is a systems biology-based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of poor health and disease. Each symptom or differential diagnosis may be one of many contributing to a person's illness or condition.
As said by Mark Hyman, MD: "One condition, many causes. One cause, many conditions". For example, a diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome or depression can be caused by many different factors, including inflammation. Likewise, a cause such as inflammation may lead to a number of different diagnoses, including chronic fatigue syndrome or depression. The manifestation of each cause depends on the individual's genes, environment, and lifestyle, and only treatments that address the right cause will have lasting benefit beyond symptom suppression. This philosophy differs from standard medicine, which, other than emergency medicine and critical care, mainly 'manages' conditions without providing solutions for deeper resolution and rejuvenation since underlying cause is often not addressed.

I start off with a thorough review of your comprehensive medical and health history. Next is a comprehensive assessment that obtains key information often missing from conventional examinations. If needed, the resting pulse rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure (supine & standing) and respiratory rate can be easily performed at home with my instructions. For appointments and consultations using ZOOM - the eyes, tongue, and nails can be accurately examined, as I'm able to evaluate your physical constitution by looking at your nails, tongue, eyes (iris analysis), and general complexion from a functional medicine perspective. This is where your ‘biological computer’ as I like to call it, can display much-needed information and guide me where to look, and what to ask. Phone appointments are also easily scheduled.
I may also check the Bio-terrain when applicable. These tests provide information about your mineral levels, toxic byproducts, digestion, free-radical stress, fat and lipid metabolism, bone health, kidney and liver stress and more!
If I feel more information is needed for accurate assessment, I often will prescribe additional lab testing. This can include any of the following: blood testing (I do not perform venipuncture), advanced stool analysis, urine testing for toxic heavy metals, urine testing for deep cellular metabolism, mycotoxin/mold analysis, and diagnostic imaging (x-ray, MRI, thermography, ultrasound, etc).
I often prescribe simple and easy home testing which can include systemic pH (acid-base) monitoring, checking nitric oxide levels, blood-brain permeability screening, basal body temperature analysis, stomach acid function evaluation, and more. I often find that these simple, inexpensive tests can reveal critical information to help restore health.
Occasionally, I find a referral to an MD is the appropriate course of action, especially if there's an issue that exceeds my scope of practice. I will attempt to work collaboratively with your primary physician. If you don’t have a primary doctor (MD or DO), we encourage you to get one. I can refer you to physicians in various specialties if needed.
Designed to help reduce energetic stress on the immune and nervous systems through blood tests and selective detoxification techniques.
I will often suggest either of these to very specific sites on the body. These can be useful for pain, cramps, clearing lymphatic congestion, scar therapy, imbedded trauma sites and digestive support among many others.
If not done properly and on the right location, these can be of little use. If done correctly, it can make the difference to resolve lingering health issues.
I offer nutritional support for many conditions including digestive disturbances (including halitosis, reflux/GERD, gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, colitis, Crohn’s, etc), fatigue, allergies, PMS, menopause, andropause (male menopause), weight loss, weight gain, asthma, attention deficit disorder, carpal tunnel sydrome, spinal disc degeneration, cardiac and lipid imbalances, immune system challenges, eczema, psoriasis, osteoporosis, arthritis, auto-immune conditions like lupus, rheumatism and thyroiditis, herpes, MS, poor memory, brain degeneration, candida, parasites, EBV, mold toxicity and more.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a stealth-like process that can strike you, your friends, your family…anyone. It remains the #1 killer in the world, so there’s much to learn about prevention and science-based natural, non-toxic, effective support measures
